Bolton, England's Khaleel Majid last night preserved his own unbeaten record while ruining another as he handed local rival Alex Murphy his first defeat. The junior welterweight 10-rounder went the full distance and, after a hard-fought affair, the 27-year-old won via unanimous scores of 96-94, 96-95 and 97-94.

The Queensberry-promoted Majid has endured a difficult period - both personally and professionally - following a stoppage victory over Tom Farrell in October 2023 while representing his previous promoters, Matchroom. That performance appeared to have lifted the prospect to new heights but, due to problems behind the scenes, it only triggered a period of inactivity.

Majid, 15-0 (4 KOs), is now ready to kickstart his journey in the professional ranks.

"Going into this fight was very emotional for myself," he said after his win over Murphy, 13-1. "I'm not really an emotional character but a lot has happened in my life this last year and it kind of showed in the fight.

"My performance can always be better. I fought a hungry undefeated fighter who gave it everything he had. Was a pleasure sharing a ring with him and wish him well going forward.

"What's next? God willing should have some positive news... I believe I am ready for anyone they put in front of me.

"This was the biggest fight of my career on the big stage and I'm thankful to Queensberry and Frank Warren for giving me this opportunity - and a massive thank you to my supporters who are helping me on this journey massively."
