Asif Vali, best known in boxing circles for his previous role as Amir Khan’s manager, has been jailed for 11 years.
A jury found Vali guilty of sex crimes against women on December 18 following a lengthy trial at Bolton Crown Court. Vali had denied the charges but was sentenced on Thursday, having been found guilty of “two counts of exposure, two counts of sexual assault and a single account of assault by penetration,” reported The Bolton News.
The victim said she had “felt afraid of the defendant and also unable to report his behaviour” and, after the guilty verdict had been handed down, she released a statement saying “Asif Vali ruined my life and my potential for a long time.”
Vali’s defense said he’d been on bail for six years without incident and said that’d met Khan working with youths before becoming his manager. He had also taken part in community and charity work.
His defense called it “a significant fall from grace for a man with a strong moral compass and it saddens him to know that work is now tarnished by these offences.”
Vali’s 11-year sentence will include two-thirds in custody and he was handed an “indefinite sexual harm prevention order and notification requirements.”
