Principality Stadium, Cardiff, Wales - Cardiff’s Joe Cordina made another dream appearance at the Principality stadium with a fourth-round knockout over Belgian late substitute Hakim Ben Ali.
Cordina hurt the visitor to the body from the outset, straying low in the second and giving Ben Ali time to recover.
Ben Ali boxed on the retreat but was ambitious enough in spots, counterpunching with the overhand right. Cordina though was too cute throughout and his looping right hook to the head and body began to soften the Belgian up by the third, before dropping him three times with a two handed assault to body and head to end the fight in the last minute of the fourth.
Cordina is now 7-0 and picked up a minor WBA lightweight belt with the victory.
Young light-heavyweight prospect Joshua Buatsi scored his fifth straight win decisioning tough, rugged Pole Bartlomiej Grafka over six rounds.
The 25-year-old Buatsi was particularly effective to the body, while a series of punishing jabs and overhand rights had the top of the visitor's head swollen red as early as the third round.
Occasionally the brave Pole would counterpunch with his favoured high left hook, but Buatsi’s right glove was usually well-positioned to block it.
Buatsi showed an excellent selection of punches throughout the bout and really does look a future star. The referee scored it 60-54.
New Zealand’s Mose Auimatagi Jr kicked the big Cardiff show off in sensation fashion with a sixth round stoppage victory over Wales-based South African super middleweight Morgan Jones here at the Principality stadium.
The previously unbeaten Jones was comfortably winning the bout, including registering a heavy knockdown in the fifth before a last minute overhand right wobbled him and power punches to body and head until referee stopped it with seconds to go. A cracking start to the action as the visitor advances to 10-1-2.
