One of the best British fights of recent years will be replayed on the June 7 Fabio Wardley-Justis Huni card when Sam Gilley and Louis Greene do battle for the British and Commonwealth junior middleweight titles.
In their stirring first encounter – named Contest of the Year at the 2023 British Boxing Board of Control Awards – London’s Gilley (pictured) was a deserved unanimous decision winner but Greene, from Strood in Kent, played his part from the first bell to the last.
Both have only competed once since that October 2023 barnburner, albeit against the same opponent, with the 17-4 (11 KOs) Greene trouncing Jack McGann in a round last March and Gilley, 18-1 (9 KOs), taking him out in four seven months later.
Cuban veteran Mike Perez, 30-3-1 (21 KOs), will be tested by Northern Ireland’s Steven Ward, 15-3 (5 KOs), in a cruiserweight 10-rounder.
Other noteworthy boxers on the Portman Road Stadium undercard include Dublin, Ireland’s Pierce O’Leary, 16-0 (9 KOs), who is expected to challenge for the vacant junior welterweight title and 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Lewis Richardson, from Colchester, England, makes his professional bow at 160lbs.
