LONDON – Derek Chisora joked that he would be up for joining Misfits Boxing following his 50th and potentially final professional contest.

Chisora fought for what he says will be the final time at the O2 Arena, where he had built a significant following, in his home city. He fought the former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in his swansong, but came up short. Wilder, 45-4-1 (43 KOs), was once one of the most feared punchers of all, but despite having Chisora down on multiple occasions he couldn’t stop the 42 year old. Wilder earned a split-decision victory over Chisora after 12 rounds.

“Good 12 rounds – he can hit,” said Chisora. “He loads up though. So, he’s got a tell sign before he chucks it; he loads it up. But when he gets it, he gets it. He can hit.”

Chisora found himself on the canvas on multiple occasions; two of them were counted as knockdowns by Mark Bates. He backed away from Wilder and leant on the ropes, as he so often does, but against Wilder he continuously fell through them.

“The ropes were very loose,” Chisora explained. “I went on the ropes, he fell on me. Pushed me, I said ‘Break’, and as I broke, I went through the ropes. They started counting. The second time, they took a point and they still counted me out, but I don’t understand why?

“Listen, it is what it is. He likes to hold a lot. I thought he was very good inside, but he was not good inside. He likes to hold a lot. I’ll tell you what I did though. I know I broke two things – his hand and his rib because right now, he can’t talk and stand right now.”

The question is will Chisora, 36-14 (23 KOs), keep his promise and stay retired?

“I think it’s technically over now,” he said. “I don’t want to fight again, but I might do something else in boxing. Right now I’m just going to chill out.”

Chisora then jokingly asked the promoter of the event, Kalle Saurland of MF Pro, if he could compete on the promotions of their sister company, Misfits Boxing.

“Can I fight your heavyweights on Misfits?” Chisora said.

“Yeah,” replied Saurland.

“Done – I’m with Misfits now,” joked Chisora. “I’m back. Thank you very much.”

He then got up and left.
