Uzbekistan’s Bektemir Melikuziev and Darius Fulghum are to fight in a WBA super-middleweight title eliminator on May 30 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, as previously reported by BoxingScene.
The middleweight Eric Priest will fight an opponent who is still to be confirmed in the chief support.
“I’m happy to be back, in a meaningful fight,” the 29-year-old “Bek” Melikuziev, said. “My goal remains the same – the world championship belt and this fight is for the right to challenge the champion, and that’s what I’ve been waiting for.”
“My mentality for this fight is to make a statement that makes me an undeniable force in the super-middleweight division,” said Fulghum, 28. “I’m extremely thankful to Golden Boy and the WBA for this opportunity.
“This is an opportunity that I don’t take for granted. I’m checking all boxes so on May 30th the fans will see the best version of ‘DFG’.”
“Golden Boy isn’t afraid to match its top contenders in high-stakes fights, and this WBA eliminator between Melikuziev and Fulghum is no exception,” said Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya. “I expect both fighters to come in focused and aggressive – because the reward is clear. A shot at a highly-coveted world title.”
The 2024 Olympian Joshua Edwards will also fight, over six rounds at heavyweight, having made his professional debut on April 19.
There will also be a six-round heavyweight contest between Federico Pacheco Jnr and Calvin Barnett, and a six-round fight at welterweight between Cayden Griffiths and an opponent to be confirmed.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who fights William Scull for the undisputed 168lbs title on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, remains the WBA champion.
