One of the sport’s longest-developing prospects is hopeful his latest career move sparks a long-sought transition to contender status.
BoxingScene has confirmed that Brandun Lee has become the latest notable talent to sign with Zuffa Boxing. The union was revealed by Lee himself, who informed ES News of the development while in camp with head trainer Robert Garcia.
An exact timetable was not provided for Lee’s debut with the rapidly moving upstart promotional outfit. BoxingScene has learned, however, that he is expected to land on one of Zuffa’s upcoming shows in the spring.
Lee, 30-0 (23 KOs) – a California-bred boxer of Korean and Mexican descent – long ago emerged as one of the more promising prospects in the sport.
However, his career development seemed to have hit a wall beginning with his April 2022 points win over Zachary Ochoa in Arlington, Texas. The performance was solid enough, though the distance bout ended his 15-fight knockout streak.
Just five fights have followed since that night, all but one that have gone to the scorecards. Three of Lee’s past four contests were scheduled for just eight rounds after he long ago graduated to the 10-round level and appeared to be at the doorstep of contention.
A more important graduation in Lee’s life, however, came in the form of higher education. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Cal State University-San Bernardino (CSUSB) in 2025, shortly before he returned to the ring for what represents his most recent bout to date.
Lee outpointed Elias Araujo via eight-round shutout last June 21 in Newark, New Jersey. The fight took place just above the 140lbs junior welterweight limit, where he has spent the entirety of his nine-year career.
That will change with his forthcoming Zuffa debut, which will take place at welterweight. Given the matchmaking on that side of the street, Lee – assuming he remains successful – could quickly contend for the company’s inaugural welterweight title once the Zuffa belt is rolled out at that weight.
For now, the key will be to return to the type of activity he was provided while on the rise. Fittingly, the career resurrection will air on Paramount+, which absorbed Showtime – the cable platform on which Lee cut his teeth on his way up.
Lee’s signing bolsters Zuffa’s welterweight roster, which includes UK star Conor Benn and rising contender Ricardo Salas.
