Dillian Whyte faces a tough test this weekend against rising heavyweight star Moses Itauma, but his trainer Buddy McGirt is not spending any time studying the 20-year-old’s past fights.
“When I tell people I’ve never seen a video of him, I’ve never seen him fight, they’re like ‘Oh, why don’t you study him?’” McGirt told BoxingNews+. “I mean, he’s knocked everybody out. It’s no disrespect to the fighter. The kid is young, he’s athletic… He’s knocked everybody out, so what am I going to study, a knockout?”
Instead, McGirt believes the best strategy for Whyte is to drag Itauma into a battle. “To fight him, you’ve got to make it a dog fight, but you’ve got to be smart about it,” he said.
Itauma enters the fight as the heavy favorite over the 37-year-old Whyte, who will look to use his experience and grit to pull off the upset.
