Chavez Barrientes will step back into the spotlight Saturday, taking on Sharone Carter in a scheduled eight-round contest on the Most Valuable Prospects 13 card at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Barrientes, a 10-0 (6 KOs) junior featherweight prospect from Las Vegas, is an action fighter with quick hands. He said his latest training camp was “incredible.”

"My dad and I have really been dialing in every detail, making sure I’m as sharp as possible,” Barrientes said. “We’ve been pushing the pace and refining my skills every day in Vegas.

“A win this Saturday is going to keep the momentum going and prove that I’m ready for bigger fights. It’s another step towards my goal of becoming a world champion.”

Carter, 14-11-1 (3 KOs), a durable veteran from St. Louis, will give Barrientes a chance to climb the ranks in the bantamweight division.

“Carter is an experienced fighter who’s been in with some good guys, like my brother, so I’m not taking him lightly,” Barrientes said. “He's a dirty fighter, but I’m focused on controlling the fight and showing that I’m on a different level.”

For his part, Chavez says he is ready to give fans an entertaining fight.

“Fans can expect fireworks,” he said. “I’m ready to put on a show and make a statement. I’m going to be aggressive, smart and show everyone why I’m an undefeated prospect on the rise.”
