Chris Eubank Jnr came in over the agreed weight at Friday’s weigh-in for his bout against Conor Benn tomorrow and has paid a heavy price.
The weight has been a hot topic of conversation across the whole build up to the fight, with the original contest, which was set for October 2022, made at 157lbs.
That bout was called off due to Benn testing positive for the banned substance clomiphene, after which Eubank Jnr distributed a photo of himself, clearly weight-drained, weighing in at 159lbs.
One of the promoters of the event, Eddie Hearn, received backlash for making the fight at what they perceived would have been a dangerous weight. Which is why, when the fight was finally rescheduled for this Saturday, a new weight, that of 160lbs, was agreed for the contest.
The two boxers were due to weigh-in this morning (Friday, April 25) at 11am. Benn turned up to the weigh-in and hit the scales at 156.4lbs, but Eubank Jnr was nowhere to be seen.
Around an hour later Eubank Jnr showed up to the weigh-in, where, according to The Ring, he came in 0.2lbs over the agreed limit.
Eubank Jnr then had one more attempt to make 160lbs but on his second and final attempt came in 0.05lbs over.
The Ring also reported Eubank Jnr will be fined $500,000 for coming over the agreed weight.
Both fighters will weigh in again on Saturday, the morning of the fight, and cannot weigh over 170lbs. If they do, they will face a further penalty.
