Lenier Pero, a 2016 Cuban Olympian and undefeated pro heavyweight, has signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and Boxlab Promotions.
Pero, 11-0 (8 KOs), will make his official debut on the Matchroom roster on April 18, when he faces Detrailous Webster, 9-4 (5 KOs), at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. The 32-year-old Pero is riding a five-fight knockout streak but has struggled to maintain momentum in his career since turning pro in 2019.
Still, despite not fighting since last March, Pero has managed to attain a no. 4 ranking with the WBA.
“I’m excited to take this next step in my career with Matchroom and Boxlab Promotions as my co-promoters,” said the 6’4” southpaw Pero. “Together, we’ll bring my journey to the world stage, and I’m ready to show everyone why I’m an undefeated force in the heavyweight division. The time is now to take my career to the next level.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Lenier to the Matchroom team,” said Hearn. “The heavyweight division is always evolving, and Lenier has the tools to become real contender. We’re excited to be working with Amaury and the Boxlab team on Lenier’s progression, and we’ll be looking for him to make a big impression on the division this year.”
“I’m thrilled to be working with Eddie Hearn and the team at Matchroom on advancing Lenier Pero’s career,” said Amaury Piedra, Boxlab Promotions. “This former Cuban Olympian has passed all his tests in the pro ranks earning a top ranking with the WBA. Now is the time to join forces with Matchroom so we can together take him to new heights and show the world this future heavyweight champion.”
