The Boxing Insider Promotions card scheduled for this Friday at Sony Hall in New York City has been canceled, the promotional company announced Thursday.

The card, set to be broadcast by DAZN, was to be headlined by local favorite Andy Dominguez facing Venezuelan Nelvis Rodriguez in a 10-round fight for a minor WBC title at 108lbs, but the fight - and the show - were called off after it was apparent that Rodriguez would not be able to make the weight. Losing the main event, coupled with losing the co-main event and several other bouts earlier, would have left the show with just 14 scheduled rounds.

“The 10-round WBC US Silver junior flyweight title fight, contracted over a month ago at 108 pounds, was called off after it became clear that Rodriguez would be significantly over the weight limit, far exceeding Dominguez’s 108 pounds,” wrote promoter Larry Goldberg on his company’s Instagram account.

“The New York State Athletic Commission’s 3-pound weight difference rule for this weight class made the fight impossible and finding a last minute replacement was impossible. Combined with the loss of the co-main event, the remaining undercard fights were insufficient to deliver a quality experience for fans.”

Dominguez, 12-1 (6 KOs), who was raised in the Bronx but now lives in Los Angeles and trains at the famed Wild Card Boxing Club, was seeking his third straight win, and his first significant victory at his true weight class of junior flyweight.

Dominguez's trainer Marvin Somodio addressed the cancellation on social media, writing "Fight is off but we’ll keep training. It’s boxing sometimes good, sometimes shit! And today is SHIT again."

Goldberg, who has been New York City’s most active club promoter in recent years, says he will move some of the fights to his next card, which is scheduled for July 25 at Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. That card already has fights with prospects Marco Romero, Jacob Riley Solis and Bruce Seldon Jnr scheduled.

Refunds for the May 9 card will be available online and at the point of purchase.
