Gabriela Tellez will face Elizabeth Espinoza in a junior lightweight six-rounder July 18 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.
The bout will appear on a Boxlab Promotions’ “Night of Champions” card and will be streamed by DAZN.
Tellez, 5-0 (2 KOs), an 18-year-old San Antonio resident originally from Vero Beach, Florida, edged Abril Anguiano in a majority decision in her first blockbuster boxing event last February, on the undercard of the David Benavidez-David Morrell Jnr fight in Las Vegas. Most recently, in April, she stopped Lindsey Ellis inside two rounds in Houston.
“This is another step forward for me to show how much I’ve grown,” Tellez said. “Every fight, I’m improving, and every win gets me closer to my goal of becoming a world champion.
“I want to be known as someone who always brings energy, excitement and heart to the ring.”
Espinoza, 4-8-3 (1 KO), of Torreon, Mexico, has lost four straight decisions, but she is 26 and has never been stopped. She has fought 92 rounds as a professional, compared to just 22 for Tellez, making Espinoza a solid match for Tellez at this early stage of her career.
“Espinoza brings more experience,” Tellez said, “but I’m confident in my ability to adjust to anything she brings.”
The card will also include fights featuring heavyweight hitter Gurgen Hovhannisyan, 8-0 (7 KOs), junior featherweight Angel Barrientes, 13-1 (8 KOs) and 18-year-old junior middleweight riser Alex Bray 9-0 (7 KOs).
