Who will leave Las Vegas as the top cruiserweight in the world?

That’s the question that Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and David Benavidez will look to decide when they meet tonight, May 2, at T-Mobile Arena. Ramirez, 48-1 (30 KOs), will be defending his WBO and WBA titles at 200lbs, while Benavidez, 31-0 (25 KOs), will try to win world titles in his third weight class. The main event will be an all-Mexican title fight on the weekend preceding Cinco de Mayo, which raises the stakes even higher.

Other fights scheduled for the card include Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro, Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia and Isaac Lucero vs. Ismael Flores.

Benavidez wants Canelo, Bivol

David Benavidez calls out Canelo Alvarez after the fight: "Do you guys want to see Canelo vs. David Benavidez? Enough said, that means we cannot leave that fight on the table." He says that Dmitry Bivol is top on his hit list though.

David Benavidez stops Zurdo in round 6!

Benavidez is coming alive again in the sixth, he's doing a great job of staying in the pocket while not getting hit cleanly. Ramirez's right eye looks to be about shut. Benavidez is looking to target hard shots and Ramirez goes down again while grabbing his eye. He shakes his head and the fight is over, Benavidez is now the unified cruiserweight champion. What a brutal beating.

Gilberto Ramirez vs. David Benavidez round 5

The punishment continues in the fifth round, Ramirez is fighting his heart out, not running at all from Benavidez but he's paying a price for it. Benavidez looks to be the bigger puncher in addition to the quicker fighter. Ramirez's face looks swollen badly already. Benavidez looks like he needs a breather after that explosive fourth. Ramirez came back some but it looks like Benavidez was taking a blow that round.

Gilberto Ramirez vs. David Benavidez round 4

David Benavidez is putting a beating on Ramirez in the fourth round, down goes Ramirez from a flurry and his nose looks to have been broken. This fight looks moments from being over.

Gilberto Ramirez vs. David Benavidez round 3

The speed of Benavidez is still too much for Ramirez to deal with. Benavidez is taking advantage of Ramirez not moving his head, he can't miss on Ramirez early on. Benavidez is standing in close where Ramirez wants to be but is still getting the better of it

Gilberto Ramirez vs. David Benavidez round 2

Ramirez has made the adjustment in round two, he's now coming forward, trying to get to Benavidez's body. Benavidez is staying relaxed in the pocket, landing body shots of his own and lands another strong flurry to end the round.

Gilberto Ramirez vs. David Benavidez round 1

David Benavidez is showing early on why he's such a big favorite here as challenger, landing several straight rights on the southpaw Ramirez, and ending the round with a fast flurry. Usually Benavidez has to come from behind against guys counterpunching him, it's unusual for him to start this strongly.

Jaime Munguia wins WBA 168lbs title by

Jaime Munguia is the new WBA super middleweight champion, winning by scores of 117-111, 119-109, 120-108.

Big win for Jaime Munguia, who looked as sharp as ever in his career albeit against a game but limited Armando Resendiz. A big return to the championship level for Munguia, who previously held the WBO junior middleweight title.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia round 12

Jaime Munguia finally hurts Armando Resendiz badly in the 12th, a left uppercut did it. Resendiz shows an amazing chin to stand up to those shots and then have an exhausted Munguia on the ropes at the final bell. Munguia probably won that 10-2 or 11-1, belt should be heading to Munguia now.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia round 10-11

This has basically become a bad sparring session, with Munguia stepping around the ring, landing first with his combinations before Resendiz can get off. Resendiz is taking some huge shots with just one round to go.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia rounds 8-9

It's still all Munguia in the eighth as he just continues to outbox and counterpunch Resendiz. It doesn't look like Resendiz will find a way to consistently get to Munguia. Munguia has too much power and skill. Resendiz is trying but he's fighting in straight lines and getting picked off. He looks to have had all his confidence drained from him already.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia round 5-7

Jaime Munguia is taking control in the fifth and sixth rounds, his jab has kept Resendiz out and he's picked when he wants to flurry and when he wants to move. Munguia is doing a good job of fighting off the ropes, finding chances to catch his breath while dissuading Resendiz from attacking. Hard body punches from Munguia sets up a big hook upstairs in the seventh.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia round 4

This fight is getting more interesting as the rounds go on, Munguia is allowing Resendiz to pressure him to the ropes and land hooks to the body and right hands upstairs. Munguia is still the flashier puncher of the two but the gap is closing.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia round 3

Armando Resendiz is making it more of a fight in the third, landing a few right hands and body shots, but Munguia is the more consistent fighter, especially with the hook to the body after the 1-2. Resendiz doesn't seem to have much of a plan to get inside except when Munguia stays stationary and allows him in.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia round 2

Jaime Munguia is looking sharp early on, he lands a left uppercut inside and touches the body, Resendiz doesn't look certain about how to attack. Very strong start for Munguia early on.

Armando Resendiz vs. Jaime Munguia round 1

Good first round for Resendiz, who is pressuring intelligently, using foot feints to break up Munguia's rhythm. Munguia is the sharper puncher, throwing nice combinations to the head and body. Interesting to see how this fight develops.

Oscar Duarte wins a split decision

Oscar Duarte emerges with a bloodied ear and a split decision win over Angel Fierro. The scores were 115-113 Duarte, 116-112 Fierro, 116-112 Duarte. Crowd boos the decision, seemingly forgiving him for blowing weight by three pounds before the fight. Fierro threw more, 973 to 744, while Duarte is credited with landing more, 229 to 203. I imagine we'll see Fierro again, but hard to trust him to make weight at 140lbs, he might get some offers at welterweight.

Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro round 11

Oscar Duarte continues to plod forward, he's throwing hard shots but not moving his head at all or cutting off the ring. He might have won that round, if he was cutting the ring and not allowing Fierro to escape to his left constantly, this fight might look a lot more different. Final round coming up.

Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro round 10

Oscar Duarte continues to try, lands some strong hooks and uppercuts but it's Angel Fierro who is boxing and moving, tagging Duarte as he comes in flat-footed without cutting off the ring. It's like Duarte has given up on any pretense of boxing skill and is just swinging as hard as he can at whatever is in front of him.

Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro round 9

Oscar Duarte is now using his jab more to try and land his combinations, and now he has Fierro hurt in the last minute of the ninth with a body shot. Fierro has recovered and continued to put combinations together which now have Duarte bleeding from the nose.

Richardson Hitchins, who was supposed to fight Oscar Duarte before withdrawing after the weigh-in, tweeted: "Duarte trash."

Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro Round 8

Oscar Duarte not at all adjusting to avoid the overhand rights but he's bringing the heat with his combinations. Not nearly as many body punches as you'd imagine from Duarte's style, he looks to be trying to end the fight with one punch. Duarte may be a big puncher, but he hasn't invested much into boxing skills. Fierro ends the round with 5 straight jabs on a stationary opponent.

Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro Round 7

Tough moments for Oscar Duarte as he's taking big overhand rights that have drawn blood from his left ear, has it been knocked loose? Duarte simply doesn't move his head at all, just takes the punches as they come and tries to punch through it. Doctor now examining the ear, but they let the fight continue.

Oscar Duarte-Angel Fierro rounds 5-6

The fight looked like it might be nearing the end after the fourth but Angel Fierro has shown to be durable and is matching Duarte's energy, pushing him back with his own counters, which are landing because Duarte doesn't move his head much. Now Duarte is hurt at the end of the sixth! We've seen Fierro come back from adversity, lets see if Duarte can do the same!

Down goes Angel Fierro - after the bell!

Wow! Oscar Duarte basically knocks down Angel Fierro well after the bell to end the fourth. Referee immediately absolves Duarte of any wrongdoing, calls it an accident, despite the punch coming at the end of a three-punch combination that started after the bell. Really convenient for Duarte!

Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro Round 3

If Angel Fierro bet on himself by missing weight by three pounds and eating the $40,000 fine to get an advantage, it hasn't paid off yet. Duarte is putting his punches together in the third, putting pressure on Fierro and making him fight more than he wants to. Probably 2-1 for Duarte so far.

Oscar Duarte vs. Angel Fierro Rounds 1-2

Interesting fight so far as Oscar Duarte is pressuring Angel Fierro while Fierro looks to box and counterpunch. Fierro missed weight by several pounds but it's Duarte who looks to be the larger fighter on fight night. Duarte hurts Fierro at the end of the second with a body shot.

Chavez-Sanchez Round 10

Jose Tito Sanchez closes the show with a thrilling final round knockout of Jorge Chavez, dropping him with a series of right hands and then following up with a combination that sent him into the ropes. Good stoppage, Chavez was given every opportunity to continue but it was too dangerous. Chavez's decision to stand in the pocket and bang with Sanchez has backfired in a major way.

Chavez-Sanchez

It's been all Sanchez the last several rounds as Chavez has been ground down with nonstop pressure and body punching. Sanchez has been taking it to Chavez, Chavez made a miscalculation by staying in the pocket and fighting. Trainer Hector Lopez let Chavez know after the seventh that he needs these last three rounds big to win the fight.

Chavez-Sanchez round 3-4

Sanchez's body punching is showing the effects on Chavez as he has kept his opponent in front of him and is putting the punches together more. Fight is trending towards the brawler Sanchez as Chavez is making the fight harder by standing in front and trading punches.

Chavez-Sanchez round 2

Chavez is able to land when he wants to on Sanchez early on, especially with the uppercut, but Sanchez is getting what he wants, which is touching the body consistently. Chavez is standing inside more than would be expected.

Sanchez-Chavez round 1

Jorge Chavez had a sharp start to the fight, using his feet to get in and out and land combinations while Jose Tito Sanchez walked forward, applying pressure and trying to get to the body.
