Oleg Hermann, manager of IBO/WBA/IBF/WBC middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs), wants British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (24-1, 18KOs) to stop dragging his feet and sign a contract.
Eubank's promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, has been trying to work out a deal with his boxer and his father/trainer Chris Eubank Sr. for several weeks. The fight would take place in the UK, with the O2 Arena in London being a possibility.
Recently there was some trouble where the Eubanks had an issue with the financial terms related to the UK television money from Sky Sports. Those issues were worked out last week.
Eubank successfully defended his British middleweight title for the first time on June 25th, with a fourth-round stoppage of the previously unbeaten Tom Doran. Golovkin was in action back in April when he blew out IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade in two easy rounds at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
Hermann is tired of the constant talk from Eubank and his father. He wants their words to get backed up with a signed contract.
"We have a very interesting situation with Eubank Jr. We've negotiated with Eddie Hearn for several weeks and we agreed on all of the terms. As the negotiations were ongoing, Eubank Jr. spoke to the media and demanded that a contract to be signed," Hermann said.
"Eubank Sr. said that Sky Sports may prevent the fight from happening. As we know, Hearn and Eubank Sr. had a meeting with Sky Sports and they solved this problem - but it was 10 days ago. It’s time to find out whether Eubank Sr. and Eubank Jr. are only able to talk or are they are able to back up their words by singing the contract. If we don’t get a contract from Eubank Jr. - we will begin to promote our own show in the United States. We have a date on HBO — September 10th."
