Former two division champion David Haye can't understand why WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch is such a huge underdog in this Saturday's unification with Andre Ward, scheduled for the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Ward feels the iron chin of Froch is breakable, but Haye doesn't believe Ward is the one to expose it.
"Ward isn't going to be able to put a dent in him, the guy's got a lot of skills, he's got great natural ability - he's Olympic gold medalist, he's undefeated since he was 12 years of age - but he's never fought anyone like Carl Froch before," Haye told Sky Sports News. "He's fought a lot of guys who come to win, but they give up halfway... Carl won't, Carl will just keep grinding him down and grinding him down. He'll put this guy in his uncomfort zone.
Froch has dominated Arthur Abraham, beaten Andre Dirrell, Jermain Taylor, Glen Johnson, Jean Pascal, and lost a close decision to Mikkel Kessler. Even with the sharp resume, Ward is widely viewed as the easy decision winner on Saturday.
"[Froch] is a big underdog in this fight, if you look at both their records you can't really understand why because Carl's boxed at a lot higher level consistently. But I think a lot of people put the emphasis on this guy's unbeaten record, but he hasn't fought anyone of the calibre of Carl Froch," Haye said.
"Carl's boxed world champions, he's boxed guys with unbeaten records before and he's never come off second best. So I'm envisaging a tough fight for Carl, it's not going to be easy by any stretch, he's going to have to really dig deep, but I believe he knows this is his moment of destiny and he will win the fight
