Moses Itauma stormed to a rapid-fire win over veteran contender Dillian Whyte in Saudi Arabia.
Itauma blitzed Whyte, stopping him in just a round in the Riyadh bill-topper, and then said he was open to a fight with undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
The contender, from Chatham, Kent, is now 13-0 (11 KOs). Whyte fell to 31-4 (21 KOs), and the 37-year-old was not in the fight.
Southpaw Itauma cracked Whyte with some early right hooks, and he landed crisp shots to the body. Whyte couldn’t get his jab going and the 20-year-old’s speed was giving Whyte fits.
After Itauma whipped in some jabs, he walloped Whyte with some heavy overhand lefts and Whyte tottered back into a corner. Itauma flew in, letting both hands go in a prolonged vicious assault.
Whyte fell, sprawling onto all fours, and as he tried to rise he fell back into the ropes and the fight was stopped.
Whyte protested, but it was an emphatic stoppage and it came at 1:59 of the first.
The world is Itauma’s oyster.
“If I’d be completely honest, Joseph Parker and [Agit] Kabayel deserve the opportunity, but I’d love to take the shot. Chuck me in with those guys,” said Itauma.
