Washington, D.C. welterweight prospect Jalil “Major” Hackett is out of his Saturday rematch with Jose Roman Vasquez after turning his ankle on Thursday night.
“It was bizarre,” Hackett's promoter Eddie Hearn told BoxingScene at the Caribe Royale Resort on Friday morning. “He turned his ankle running around here. We got a photo of him in the hospital last night. It's a really good fight as well. It's disappointing.”
Hackett, 9-1 (7 KOs) suffered his first defeat to Roman in December, losing a closely-contested split decision in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
