The robe worn by Philadelphia idol Joe Frazier for the Thrilla in Manila is to be auctioned.
Frazier lost the epic 1975 battle to his great rival Muhammad Ali in the Philippines when his trainer, Eddie Futch, compassionately withdrew him after 14 exhausting rounds.
It is one of the all-time classic fights and the robe is being offered to marker by Goldin, an internationally renowned auction house known for rare and record-breaking collectible sales.
Their Combat Sports Auction also features the signed contract for the Netflix event between Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, but it’s Frazier’s robe that is set to steal the show.
“Combat sports have become one of the fastest growing categories of collectibles, driven by global stars, cultural events, and enthusiastic fans,” said Dave Amerman, head of revenue at Goldin. “This auction brings together one-of-a-kind boxing memorabilia alongside some of the rarest UFC cards ever produced.”
Featured items also include rare MMA cards, and the shorts Randy Couture wore in his defeat to Brock Lesnar in the UFC.
The Combat Sports Auction is now open at Goldin.com, through June 15.
