Jonathan 'Bomba' Gonzalez will return to the ring on March 19 in a function that will presented by Universal Promotions in Puerto Rico.

The fighter returns in his first bout since last October's ten round split decision win over Carlos Ruiz in Argentina, where they fought for the vacant WBC Latino flyweight championship.

"We'll put on a fight in March and we are working on that. It will be a function of Night of Champions on DirecTV. It may be for a regional title and an eliminator. I'm working on a couple of things," explained Universal Promotions president Javier Bustillo, who has a card taking place on the 30th of January in Cidra.

For his part, Gonzalez (18-1-1, 12KOs) hopes that his fight on March 19 will be a prelude to a planned title shot at 112 pounds. Gonzalez is ranked at eighth (8) under the IBF, and the current champion is tough Thai fighter Amnat Ruenroeng.

Gonzalez has gone 5-0-1 since suffering his first career defeat to former world champion Giovanni Segura in August of 2013.

"I hope so. If all goes well I could fight for the title in June. I am ranked at eight under the IBF and we'll go from there. I hope to get an eliminator and then go for the belt in June or July. If not, it would be the end of the year," Gonzalez said.
