BELL, CALIF. --- Mike Alvarado has been talking about how he is going to use a lot of movement when he faces Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night at The Forum on HBO, but Marquez is preparing for a "war."
"It's going to be a great fight," Marquez said at Wednesday's open workout at Azteca Boxing Club. "I expect a war in every round because Mike Alvarado ... he likes to fight. I like to fight. I'm ready for a war."
Marquez and Alvarado are both coming off losses. Marquez lost a split decision to Timothy Bradley on Oct. 12 in Las Vegas and Alvarado was beaten badly by Ruslan Provodnikov before retiring after the 10th round on Oct. 19 in Denver, Colo.
"The most important thing for this fight is this is motivation for him and motivation for me," Marquez said, "because he lose to Provodnikov. He lose by knockout. I lose by close decision with Timothy Bradley. It's different. He wants to win. I want to win. This is a war."
Alvarado is physically bigger than Marquez and he said he plans to use that to his advantage.
"Yes, Alvarado is bigger than me," Marquez said. "This is important because I need to use my experience. I need to work very hard in the ring because he has long arms. I need to use my experience. I need to move my body. I need to use my speed. I need to use all my experience."
Alvarado said he might use a lot of movement similar to how Timothy Bradley fought Marquez.
"Alvarado and Bradley are different styles," Marquez said. "Maybe. Alvarado wants to use the same style, but Bradley has more speed and he moves very well in the ring. Mike Alvarado too, but not with the speed."
