According to promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions, former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (55-7-1, 40KOs) is ready to fight on May 17th, but the Mexican start has not yet approved junior welterweight contender Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23KOs) as the opponent. Marquez-Alvarado is being targeted for the Forum in Inglewood, California. Marquez would return from last October's decision loss to WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. In the same month, Alvarado was stopped by Ruslan Provodnikov.

"Mike Alvarado is a possible opponent for May 17 at the Forum in Inglewood. It would be a great fight, but that depends on Juan Manuel. He will decide if he wants that fight; I do not command him on his career. Juan has the date of May 17th available for his return. Sometimes he yells at me because I tell you the dates, but that is the plan that we have. Let's see if he wants to fight on that day," said Beltran.
