Former champion Juan Urango (23-3-1, 18KOs) has set a goal of securing a world title shot within a year's time. Last Thursday in Mexico, Urango returned to the ring for the first time in over two years and stopped Cristian Chavez in two rounds. Urango, 31-years-old, had been away since the eighth round TKO loss to Devon Alexander in March of 2010.
The bout with Chavez was fought at the welterweight limit, where it appears Urango will continue his championship pursuit. He previously fought at welterweight in May 2009, losing a twelve round decision to then champion Andre Berto.
"We hope to return to the top this year and that's why I'm returning. The aim is to fight for a world title at the end of the year or early next year. I've shown what kind of fighter I am, against Devon Alexander and Andre Berto, and Briton Ricky Hatton," Urango said.
