Csandl represented his country in the 1972 Olympics in Munich and then turned pro where he challenged twice for the European light middleweight title against future world champions Jose Duran and Eckhard Dagge but came up short. He retired in 1976 with a 23-3 record.
In France, famed national champion Julien "Brigadier" Sainte Marie passed away at the age of 42 due to sudden cardiac arrest, which happened ten days ago, reports L'Equipe. Sainte Marie was then placed on life support machines until Friday, August 25, when a decision was made to shut them off.
Sainte Marie fought professionally from 2006 through 2017 with a record of 37-7-1. He held the French super middleweight title 2010-2012 but lost to Maksym Bursak in a fight for the vacant EBU title and then he never really came back.
A promotional deal in the United States with Banner Promotions was agreed upon, but Julien was nursing a broken hand and it never materialized.
Finally, the death of Algerian great Lahouari Godih should have been reported months ago. Godih passed away on May 27 in New York at the age of 94.
Godih fought professionally from 1951 through 1962 with a record of 51-14-2 that took him around the world but he settled in New York in 1958 and remained there for the rest of his life. He still challenged for the EBU title in 1959 but lost to Mario Vecchiatto.
