Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32KOs) is focused on making history, by becoming the first Mexican boxer to win a world title at the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds. Last Saturday night, Chavez set the record straight with a twelve round unanimous decision over Bryan Vera at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Chavez is now likely going to return on July 12th on HBO. He would like to fight on Pay-Per-View in the fall, against WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin or IBF/WBA 'regular' super middleweight champion Carl Froch [should he beat George Groves on May 31].
"I fight for Mexico and I want to make history for my country. I want to be the first Mexican in history to win the crown at 168 pounds, I think I can do it and I want to be the first one to do so in our country. I'd like to fight Gennady Golovkin or Carl Froch , I think they would be good opponents and I'm ready to face them. Even before I go for a championship, I would like to do another fight at 168 pounds to get stronger at this weight," Chavez said.
