Julius Ballo will have to wait a little longer to make his professional debut.

The amateur boxing standout has withdrawn from his planned March 22 fight near his hometown of San Diego, California, citing a hand injury. The 21-year-old Ballo, who will compete as a featherweight, posted a photo on his Instagram account showing his right hand in a splint, while recent videos showed him working with just his left hand on the punching bag.

“Unfortunately, I injured my hand during training camp and have to postpone my March 22 pro debut,” wrote Ballo, whose amateur credentials include a gold medal at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games in Colombia.

“I was excited to step into the ring, but my health comes first. I’m focused on my recovery and will be back stronger than ever soon. I’ll still be at the event supporting, so come out and come say what’s up! My new pro debut date will be announced soon.”

Ballo, who last competed at the 2024 National Golden Gloves, winning the top prize at 125lbs, has a co-promotional deal with Overtime Boxing and Top Rank. He is managed by James Prince, who also manages WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

A source with Top Rank says the company will monitor the situation to see if he can be ready for their next fight date in San Diego on May 10.

The March 22 card, which is promoted by Overtime, will still proceed at Sycuan Casino Resort in El Cajon, California, with Ballo’s cousin Jonny Mansour, as well as Kurt Scoby and Maliek Montgomery competing in separate bouts.
