According to WFMJ, former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik was arrested in Canfield, Ohio late Wednesday night after allegedly hitting a lamp post and telephone pole with a green ATV before driving home. Pavlik was arrested for driving under the influence, according to a police report.
When officers came to investigate, Pavlik's friend Daniel Ferreri said he had been the one in the ATV. The police report states that Pavlik stepped in and began yelling obscenities at the cops, who suspected the boxer to be intoxicated. Ferreri eventually changed his story and said Pavlik was the one who drove the ATV. Ferreri was then arrested for obstruction of justice and after refusing a series of sobriety tests, Pavlik was arrested as well.
Pavlik was booked on charges of driving under the influence, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to maintain control of his vehicle. Pavlik was released on bond around 2:00 a.m., and his arraignment is set for Friday in Canfield at The Mahoning County Municipal Court.
Pavlik's problems with alcohol abuse have been well documented over the years.
