Undefeated light heavyweight contender Sergey Kovalev (20-0-1, 18 KOs) came to the U.S. in 2009 and 3 months later he got a professional boxing license. Initially the hard-hitting Russian had been preparing for his fights in the gym in his hometown Chelyabinsk, Russia, but in 2010 he decided to stay in Las Vegas. Several months later, Kovalev moved to Big Bear in California and then he went to Fort Lauderade, where he trains to date. Checking Russia against the United States Kovalev is convinced that there are better training conditions in his native country.

"The fact, that I have changed my training camp means that I wasn’t happy about something. That’s why I try to work in sundry gyms under the eye of sundry trainers. In Chelyabinsk, the training conditions are definitely better – the gym is located in a park area what is ideal for running and playing games such as soccer or basketball. Moreover, there is a doctor and a massage therapist which is very helpful during the preparation before a fight. I also don’t have any problems with sparring partners in Russia, because I don’t have to pay them any money. The help me to prepare just for the pleasure of it. All in all, everything is much cheaper than in the United States. In America all of the necessary things are located in many different places of a large city and everything costs a lot. That’s why in my opinion the training conditions in Russia are much better,” Kovalev said to Boxingbet.pl.

On January 19th Kovalev got his most impressive win to date beating the former WBA light heavyweight champion Gabriel Campillo (21-5-1, 8 KOs) of Spain. The Russian fighter states that he wants to fight four more bouts in 2013. The next one may take place in the capital city of Russia, Moscow.

“I’d like to fight four more bouts. Currently there are talks regarding staging my fight in Moscow in April, but it’s hard to tell if it’s real. Everything will be clear by the end of February. Moving to an ew weight category is not in my plans. I think the light heavyweight division will come alive thanks to me”.
