There haven’t been many heavyweights from the country of Albania – BoxRec lists 22 in total, nine of whom the website considers as active competitors.

Under BoxRec’s algorithm, Kristian Prenga, 20-1 (20 KOs), is ranked second among Albania’s active heavyweights (behind only Nelson Hysa, who is 24-0 with 22 KOs) and first all time (ahead of Hysa).

So it’s understandable that Prenga’s aspirations aren’t just national acclaim, but international accomplishment.

“I don’t only want to be the greatest heavyweight from Albania,” Prenga was quoted as saying in a press release. “What I really want is to be the heavyweight champion of the world. That’s what I’m working on, but it’s not what I talk about, as that is not my style. I just work hard in the gym and how I live outside the gym to achieve this goal.”

The 6-foot-5 Prenga has limited time to make quite a climb. He is 35 years old and is as yet unranked by any of the four major sanctioning bodies at heavyweight. Prenga was a kickboxer before taking up boxing, turning pro in the sweet science in 2016 with no amateur experience.

He suffered his sole defeat in his fifth boxing match, losing on points in a rematch with a 1-2 fighter named Giovanni Auriemma – a fighter whom Prenga had stopped just four months before then. Only wins have followed since, though there was a long period of inactivity.

Prenga didn’t fight at all in 2019 or 2020 (the year that the pandemic shut down most sporting activity). He had one bout in 2021. Prenga has fought exclusively in the United States since 2022. He now lives in New Jersey. Prenga competed twice in 2022, three times in 2023, once in 2024, three times in 2025 and once so far this year.

In February, Prenga won in under two minutes against a 16-14-1 opponent.

“Kristian Prenga isn’t just chasing wins. He is on a mission to become Albania’s top heavyweight and a real force on the world heavyweight stage,” said his manager, Keith Sullivan, in the press release. “We’re building Kristian the right way. And make no mistake, the goal is for him to be recognized as Albania’s number-one heavyweight while competing with the best globally.”

The aforementioned Hysa is also 6-foot-5. He is 41 years old and last fought in October, sending the unbeaten but untested Abel Pesut packing after three rounds.
