The world super welterweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Cuba's Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs), will do everything possible to secure a fight with Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs). On May 2nd, Lara will defend his title against former champion Ishe Smith (25-6, 11 KOs), and Canelo has a return date set down for July 26th with no opponent finalized.

After Canelo TKO win over Alfredo Angulo on March 8th, Lara challenged the Mexican superstar at the post-fight press conference.

"'Canelo does not want to know me, he says he is not interested in me. He need to put on his balls and get in the ring with me to fight. I'm tired of telling him that, because it goes in one ear and comes out the another. He not listening," said Lara to ESPN Radio. "I have always been right behind Canelo, and he always has an excuse."
