Wales’ Lee Selby has followed Yuriorkis Gamboa in agreeing to enter bare-knuckle boxing by signing up for BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing in what has been described as a “multi-fight, multi-year agreement”.

Selby, 38, reigned as the IBF featherweight champion from three years from 2015. He retired with a record of 28-4 (9KOs), having established himself among his country’s finest fighters, and will next look to join fellow former world champions James DeGale and Paulie Malignaggi and winning fights in a new discipline.

“I’ve achieved everything in gloved boxing – from regional titles to defending my world title five times,” he said. “Now, bare-knuckle is calling.

“It’s the original, no-filter version of boxing, and I’m excited to bring my speed, skill and experience to BKB. I’m here to win another world title and show why I’m still one of the best.”

Selby retired in 2022, after being stopped in five rounds by Gustavo Daniel Lemos. The defeat was his second in succession, following his move up from lightweight – the first came against George Kambosos Jnr in 2020.
