Lightweight contender Lucas Bahdi has only 24 hours to wait to face the first southpaw of his career when he returns home to Canada at the Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on Friday.
Bahdi heard plenty of cheers as he tipped the scales at 135.0lbs on Thursday, while opponent Ryan Racaza came in a smidgen lighter at 134.8lbs.
Bahdi, a 31-year-old from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, knocked out MVP’s top prospect Ashton Sylve last summer and returned in November on the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson undercard to win a majority decision over Armando Casamonica. Now 18-0 (15 KOs), Bahdi will take on a new challenge – his first pro southpaw opponent.
Racaza, 28, from Caloocan City, Philippines, enters on a five-fight knockout streak. He has never fought outside the Philippines, which adds another layer of mystery to the fight.
The co-feature will see WBA junior flyweight titleholder Sara Bailey, a 30-year-old from Etobicoke, Ontario, make her second title defense, against Cristina Navarro. Bailey, who weighed in at the championship limit of 108.0lbs, won a title in just her fourth professional fight and now holds a record of 5-0.
Navarro, 35, from Islas Baleares, Spain, weighed in at 107.8lbs. She holds a record of 6-2 (1 KO) and enters the contest on a three-fight win streak.
The only other notable occurrence was Jaime Cuesta coming in at 142.4lbs – 2.4lbs over the junior welterweight limit – for his fight against Mark Smither. Representatives confirmed that the fight will continue.
The bout will be streamed on DAZN, with the prelims streaming on YouTube.
