Former champion Cristian Mijares (45-6-2, 21KOs) looked very strong last Saturday night in Morelia, as he knocked out Eddy Julio in four rounds.
The victory may have secured a huge opportunity in July, against WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (28-1, 18KOs).
Mijares, once regarded as a pound-for-pound boxer, suffered several defeats between 2008 and 2009, but now he's put together a seven fight win streak - and won two new titles.
"I hoped more opposition [in my last fight], but I felt powerful. I will rest for ten days and I will prepare for two and a half months in the city of Mexico for [the fight with] Donaire, a dangerous boxer - however, no one is invincible," Mijares said.
"I'll be ready for twelve rounds, but I feel that with my strength I can knock him out. The fight will be very hard, because the Filipino is left-handed, has a good hook and he's a counter-puncher. [I have my] experience, intelligence and my boxing ability and I will deliver."
