BELL, CALIF. --- Mike Alvarado suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Ruslan Provodnikov that cost him his WBO light-welterweight title last October in his hometown of Denver, Colo.
Alvarado was knocked down twice and unable to answer the bell for the 11th round. Some ringside observers believe it was a mstake to take such a tough fight against Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday night at The Forum on HBO.
"That's fine," Alvarado said. "You know, I still got to do me. I don't give in to what people think and what people don't know about me. I know what I need to do, you know, and I just stick to my game plan and what I need to do to make me better."
Alvarado refuses to let the doubters get him down.
"Doubters, just stay tuned and watch," Alvarado said. "I mean, they're going to pay [to see me] win, lose or whatever. They are still going to pay to see. Regardless, you know, I got to do me. I don't give in to any of that ever."
