Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather ‘IS ON’ according to a brief press release from CSI Sports.
The exhibition contest, that would match former heavyweight king Tyson, who peaked in the 1980s, with Mayweather, who was at his best 20 years later six divisions below, was originally scheduled for Spring but has now been put back to Fall.
The delay, say the organizers, is down to Tyson, 59, continuing to “work through a smooth recovery” after breaking his hand in training.
The once "baddest man on the planet" was last seen in a ring in 2024 when he was outpointed over eight listless rounds by Jake Paul to take his record to 50-7 (44 KOs). He last won a fight 23 years ago when he knocked out Clifford Etienne inside one round.
Mayweather, 50-0 (27 KOs), last fought – in a licensed contest – in 2017 when he stopped Conor McGregor in 10 rounds. The last time he beat an established boxer came two years before, when he outpointed Andre Berto over 12 rounds.
The 49-year-old has engaged in a series of exhibitions since and it has widely been reported that he will rematch Manny Pacquiao, 47, on September 26 in a sanctioned bout.
