Nathan Cleverly is set to make his ring return later this month.

The former light heavyweight world champion (29-3, 15 KOs) has been out of action since suffering a broken nose, among other injuries, last October during his loss to Andrzej Fonfara.

But Cefn Fforest’s Cleverly, 29, is ready to make a comeback before making another assault on global honours in the 175lb division.

He will have what he calls a “little tune-up fight” on May 28 at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow as part of the supporting cast to Ricky Burns’ bid to become the first ever Scot to be crowned a three-weight world champion as he faces Michele Di Rocco for the vacant Super WBA super lightweight title.

Should the Welshman get a win on the bill, he will be looking to get back into the mainstream mix at the weight and has already earmarked Andre Ward and WBC king Adonis Stevenson as potential future opponents and has yet to rule out the rematch with aforementioned Chicago-based Pole Fonfara.

Meanwhile, both Josh Taylor (4-0, 4 KOs) and Sam Ball (5-0, 2 KOs) have been added to the bill.

Taylor, the Cyclone Promotions super lightweight, must first deal with the challenge that awaits him at the Wales Ice Arena in Cardiff on May 14, while Ball extended his record with a victory on a dinner show in his native Scotland late last month.

Elsewhere on the card, there is a British super lightweight title battle between holder Tyrone Nurse and Willie Limond, while the undercard for the show is headed by British, WBO European and WBC International bantamweight champion Ryan Burnett.

Elsewhere, John Ryder, Lewis Paulin and Joe Ham will feature alongside Charlie Flynn, who’ll fight for his first title as a pro, and Matchroom Boxing’s newest star Conor Benn, who will have to get past this test before featuring on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s first defence of the IBF heavyweight title against Dominic Breazeale on June 25 at the O2 Arena in London.
