Scotland’s Nathaniel Collins will challenge the European featherweight champion Cristobal Lorente of Spain at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland on October 4.
It was at the SSE Hydro in the same city that Collins, 28, on the undercard of Josh Taylor-Ekow Essuman, stopped Lee McGregor in May.
The 29-year-old Llorente won the vacant title when defeating Mauro Forte in July 2024, and has since defended it against Francesco Grandelli and, as recently as July, Ruben Gil.
“This represents a golden opportunity for Nathaniel,” said Collins’ promoter Frank Warren. “Not only does he have a shot at the European title against the champion Lorente, but the other major plus for Nathaniel is the chance to headline a show in his home city and see to it that there are many more repeat visits and a golden future for Scottish boxing.
“Now that Josh Taylor has called time on his glorious career, the door is open for Nathaniel to lead the way and keep bringing the action to his homeland.”
The light heavyweight Willy Hutchinson will feature on the undercard against an opponent to be confirmed, Regan Glackin and Louie O’Doherty will fight at lightweight, Aston Brown and Paul Kean meet at middleweight, and McGregor, Drew Limond, Alex Arthur Jnr, Marcus Sutherland, Reese Lynch and the welterweight debutant John Joe Carrigan will also fight.
“We’ve got some great fights lined up for October 4, with Willy Hutchinson as he looks to put himself back in the world-title picture, plus the lightweight fight between Regan Glackin and Louie O’Doherty – this is one not to be missed as it is a genuine 50-50,” Warren continued. “Aston Brown will also be looking to build on an eye-catching display in May when he defends his Scottish title against Paul Kean.
“I am absolutely thrilled and very excited by the young talent pool we have assembled north of the border, headed up by Drew Limond, Alex Arthur Jnr and Reese Lynch, who will all feature on the night, alongside a future English star in John Joe Carrigan, who is a nine-time national champion and world under-19 gold medalist.”
