Olivia Curry wants revenge in her rematch against Kaye Scott.
The two will be the main event of Saturday night’s fight card from the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The vacant WBA and WBC middleweight titles will be on the line.
Curry, 7-2-2 (2 KOs), fought Scott to a draw in September. This is not only an opportunity for Curry to avenge that unsatisfactory result, but also to fight for the belts again. Curry, who graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in radio, television and film, was asked about any cinematic masterpieces this fight could equate to.
“I want to say this would be something like Hell or High Water, or a revenge movie, because that is how I feel right now,” Curry told BoxingScene. “I’m pissed off, and there have been parts of this camp that have been hard personally for me.”
Curry, a 36-year-old from Chicago, admits she is entering this bout with a pissed-off attitude and her own quest to channel Uma Thurman’s character from the Kill Bill movies as she seeks redemption.
“My thought is no longer, ‘How do I win the technical game of boxing?’” Curry said. “My thought is, ‘How do I make her feel these punches?’”
Curry is interested in thinking about the adjustments she could’ve made, but she also wonders what Scott, 4-1-1 (0 KOs), might be doing differently.
“I think there are going to be some differences,” Curry said. “I think both of us know we can’t fight the same fight. It might end up the same way. Can you imagine another draw? That’d be the worst-case scenario.”
Scott, a 41-year-old from Sydney, Australia, is 0-1-1 in title fights. Before facing Curry in September, Scott lost to Desley Robinson in a December 2024 bout contested for the vacant IBF middleweight title.
“I haven’t had a rematch in my professional career,” Curry said. “Whoever wants it more is going to take this next one.”
