WOODLAND, California – Paco Damian has big plans in store for junior flyweight Jassiel Ramon Amador and middleweight Frank Espinoza, with both fighters currently at different points in their respective careers.
Amador of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, won a 10-round unanimous decision over Pedro Delgado Gaytan on March 7 in Los Cabos, Mexico. The bout aired on ProBox TV. Meanwhile, Espinoza of Sacramento, California, stopped DePriest Johnson in one round in a regional bout which took place in Lincoln, California. Damian promotes both fighters.
Twenty-seven-year-old Amador is 14-0-1 (13 KOs), and Damian is optimistic that he can become a title contender in the near future.
“It was Jassiel’s first time going past the eighth round; it was a good experience for him,” Damian said. “He still needs more experience, and he is improving with every fight.”
Damian noted that Amador is currently ranked No.15 by the WBA and then laid out his plans for Amador.
“The goal is to get him the fights that help him develop,” Damian said. “We aren’t going to rush him to a title, but I think he is getting close to that point.
Espinoza, 3-0 (3 KOs), is not a contender, but rather a prospect. Against Johnson, the 20-year-old did something many prospects couldn’t: he stopped him.
“He stopped a fighter that eight undefeated fighters couldn’t, and he did it in one round,” Damian said of Espinoza. “Johnson just beat an undefeated 5-0 opponent before, so Frank did very well.”
Espinoza was an elite amateur who took to boxing during the COVID-19 pandemic and has proven to have a gift for it. He emerged as the No.1 fighter in his division and is trained by legendary Sacramento coach Ray Woods, the stepfather of Diego “Chico” Corrales.
“Before he walked to the ring, we told him to put smart pressure on him, but be mean and relentless,” Damian said. “He did just that.”
Damian, who began promoting with legendary Northern California boxing promoter Don Chargin, is eager to see what the future has in store for both fighters.
“I am excited about the future for both fighters,” Damian said. “Jessiel is getting close to a big opportunity, and Frank is developing, getting good pro experience, which will lead to his own opportunities. It is great to be able to help fighters at different stages of their career, and help them achieve as much as they can.”
