Coatbridge's Ricky Burns will attempt to become a three-time world titlist when he meets Italy's Michele Di Rocco for the vacant WBA World light-welterweight title on May 28.

However, the 33-year-old has revealed that he enjoyed the relatively quiet couple of years that have passed since he lost his WBO lightweight belt to Terence Crawford.

Burns dropped a decision against the unfancied Dejan Zlaticanin in his following contest and lost to Omar Figuero Junior (L 12 last May) before bouncing back into contention with wins over Prince Ofotsu (W TKO 5) and Josh King (W KO 11).

Burns (39-5-1, 13) told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser that he firmly believes he will win another world title belt after taking in the 33-year-old's recent performances.

He said: “We're moving forward now and I have a big opportunity.  I'm not one for the limelight so I have enjoyed the last two years in that sense.  Myself and Tony [Sims, his trainer] have been watching tape of Di Rocco's last few fights.  It's a winnable fight.”

The fight takes place at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena and will be shown live on Sky Sports here in the U.K.;  a win for Burns would throw him right back into the mix and open the door for bigger fights for a fighter who looked down and out after losing to Zlaticanin.
