Expo Bancomer Santa Fe, Mexico City - WBC silver 140-pound champion Roberto "Massa" Ortiz (24-0-1, 20KOs) was about to be knocked out in the last round, but he managed to hang on to win a split decision over twelve rounds against Javier Prieto (16-6, 11KOs). Ortiz was fading the last two rounds and made the mistake of standing and trading with Prieto often. He appeared to be on the verge of getting stopped in the twelfth, but by some miracle he stayed on his feet. The scores were 113-115 for Prieto, and 115-112, 115-113 in favor of Ortiz.
Japanese prospect Tomoki "The Little Mexican" Kameda (23-0, 15KOs) stopped Jairo Hernandez (8-1, 3KOs) to win the vacant WBC silver super bantamweight title. Hernandez got off to a fast start in the first three rounds, but Kameda had total control in the fourth and by the sixth he took over the entire fight.
Returning for the first time in two years, Colombian slugger and former junior welterweight champion Juan Urango (23-3-1, 18KOs) knocked out Cristian "El Yaqui" Chavez (24-19, 12KOs) in two rounds.
