Robin Safar, 19-0 (13 KOs), is set to take on Yamil Peralta, 18-1-1 (10 KOs), in a cruiserweight 12-rounder on the May 22 undercard of the IBF middleweight eliminator between Amari Jones and Vincenzo Gualtieri at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
The clash between Peralta and Safar will be for the former’s WBC silver strap.
“Looking forward to putting on a spectacular performance in front of San Jose fans,” Robin Safar said according to the press release. “I have my sights set on becoming a world champion this year and Peralta being ranked no. 2 by the WBC is the perfect available opponent. I’ve already put the division on notice since cracking into the top 10, now I’m going to put every champion on notice with this performance. I’m coming for all of them.”
“My entire team and I have been preparing extremely hard for a challenge of this level,” Peralta is quoted as saying the same release. "We are going to defend this belt the best way possible. I have the experience necessary to come away with the victory and launch my career onto the biggest stage, leaving everything in the ring. We hope to return to Argentina victorious and share this joy with all of our people.”
Also featured on the televised DAZN card, Las Vegas’ Tristan Kalkreuth (16-1, 11 KOs) returns in a 10-round cruiserweight clash against Michoacán, Mexico’s Marco Canedo (8-3-1, 5 KOs). Rising super middleweight Darius Fulghum (14-1-1, 12 KOs) will compete in a 10-round bout against Miami-based Yoanki Urrutia (17-2, 7 KOs). Opening the DAZN broadcast, Los Angeles’ John “Scrappy” Ramirez (16-1, 9 KOs) will face Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s Van Tran (19-2, 11 KOs) in a 10-round super flyweight contest.
The preliminary card will feature Fresno, California’s Jordan Fuentes (6-0, 2 KOs) in a six-round super flyweight bout against an opponent to be announced. In a four-round super featherweight fight, Salinas, California’s Jose Medrano (2-0, 1 KO) will take on Aurora, Colorado’s Anel Dudo (4-8-1, 1 KO). Opening the evening, Los Angeles’ Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu (7-0, 3 KOs) will square off against Adrian Herrera (10-4, 8 KOs) of Jalisco, Mexico in an eight-round flyweight matchup.
