WBO featherweight champion Orlando "Siri" Salido (39-11-2, 27KOs) is focused on defending his title in late January or a date in February, against undefeated challenger Miguel "Mikey" Garcia. WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire is pondering the possibility of moving up in weight. Salido hopes to beat Garcia, and then face Donaire by the summer.
"I am in the prime of my career, both mentaly and physicaly. I'm in the best condition of my career, and I want to fight the best in the world. But before I face Donaire, I have to Miguel Garcia. [Me and Donaire] are with the same sanctioning body, the same promotional company, Top Rank, and I think it will be easier to [make a fight with me," Salido said.
"That fight with between me and Nonito can generate a lot of money. This is a business and I know that a fight with him could give me the best purse of my career."
Salido is almost fully recovered from a recent hand injury. He hurt his right hand after it was caught in a car door. He fractured one of his fingers. Salido doesn't expect an easy fight, but feels that he will shock Garcia.
"Mike Garcia is a good fighter, a good opponent. I respect him a lot and I know it will not be easy. And that's why I will work hard in training to make that commitment," Salido said.
