A source informed BoxingScene.com on Friday morning that Luis Collazo has withdrawn from his nationally televised July 16 fight against Sammy Vasquez due to a calf injury.

Vasquez has agreed to face Felix Diaz now that Collazo (36-7, 19 KOs), a former WBA welterweight champion, is unavailable for that 10-round welterweight bout in Birmingham, Alabama. The Vasquez-Diaz bout will be broadcast by FOX as the co-feature before Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) makes an optional defense of his WBC heavyweight title against Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs, 2 NC) at Legacy Arena.

The Dominican Republic’s Diaz (17-1, 8 KOs) lost a majority decision to Lamont Peterson (34-3-1, 17 KOs) in his last fight, a highly competitive 12-rounder October 17 in Fairfax, Virginia. Before agreeing to box Vasquez, Diaz, a 32-year-old southpaw, was training to face Georgia’s Levan Ghvamichava (16-2-1, 12 KOs) in a 10-rounder July 12 in Nice, California.

Vasquez (21-0, 15 KOs), a southpaw from Monessen, Pennsylvania, defeated Aron Martinez by technical knockout in his last fight. East Los Angeles’ Martinez (20-5-1, 4 KOs) suffered an arm injury during that fight and declined to come out of his corner for the seventh round January 23 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

An official announcement from Premier Boxing Champions regarding Diaz replacing Collazo is expected later Friday.
