Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions held media workouts on Thursday afternoon for their May 17 tripleheader at The Commerce Casino Events Center. The fights will be broadcast on UFC Fight Pass.
The headliner features junior middleweight action fighter Serhii Bohachuk, 25-2 (24 KOs). Bohachuk recently went toe-to-toe with rising star Vergil Ortiz in a violent, razor-thin decision loss, then bounced back with an emphatic six-round beatdown of Ishmael Davis. Bohachuk will take on 25-4 (5 KOs) Mykal Fox.
The co-main event sees Omar Trinidad, 18-0-1 (13 KOs) take on Alexander Espinoza, 23-6-3 (8 KOs). In the opener, Mizuki Hiruta, the 7-0 WBA junior bantamweight champion, will attempt her fourth title defense against Carla Ayelan Merino, 16-2 (4 KOs).
All three fights are scheduled for ten rounds.
At the media workout, Bohachuk said that “I feel like I’m the best super welterweight in the world,” – the Transnational Rankings Board has him fifth – and that he was happy to remain active, a more plausible claim. This will be his fourth fight in the last 14 months.
Hiruta, fighting at the Commerce Casino for a second straight time after boxing her first six pro bouts at Korakuen Hall in Japan, called fighting in Los Angeles “a dream come true.” She added, “Japanese fans were very enthusiastic for me and I will make them proud again in my title defense.”
Loeffler proclaimed the event “one of the deepest cards we’ve promoted in Southern California,” and hailed Bohachuk, Trinidad, and Mizuki as top fighters in their weight classes.
The undercard includes Lupita Medina, 9-0 (2 KOs), against the 12-5 Maria Micheo in a scheduled eight rounds at minimumweight. Abel Mejia, 7-0 (2 KOs), will meet Antonio Dunton El Jnr, 6-3-2 (2 KOs), over six rounds at junior lightweight. The 3-0 Jocelyn Camarillo will fight Qianyue Zhao, 0-1, in a junior flyweight bout scheduled for four rounds.
