Franchon Crews-Dezurn – the former undisputed super middleweight champion who has since regained two world titles at 168lbs – has signed a multi-fight deal with Salita Promotions, according to a press release.
Crews-Dezurn, 9-2 (2 KOs), is a 37-year-old from Baltimore. She joins a promotion that includes several other female fighters, most notably multi-division champion Claressa Shields, 16-0 (3 KOs), who defeated Crews-Dezurn in 2016 in what was the pro debut for both women.
Salita also promotes junior featherweight Ashleyann Lozada, who made it to the featherweight quarterfinals in the 2024 Olympics and is 1-0 (0 KOs) as a pro; featherweight Carolyn Veyre, 9-1 (0 KOs); and junior welterweight Samantha Worthington, 11-0 (7 KOs).
“Dmitriy Salita and his team have proven to be trailblazers in women’s boxing, and their commitment to spotlight women is unmatched,” Crews-Dezurn was quoted as saying in the press release. “Under the Salita Promotions banner, there is no shortage of exciting fights that await me in my pursuit to become the undisputed champion again.”
Crews-Dezurn’s first journey to undisputed began in September 2018, when she won the vacant WBC belt with a majority decision over Maricela Cornejo. She added the vacant WBO belt in a rematch with Cornejo in September 2019, this time winning a unanimous decision. And she became the undisputed champ in April 2022, outpointing IBF and WBA titleholder Elin Cederroos.
But her reign ended 14 months later in her next defense, a majority decision defeat against Savannah Marshall in July 2023. Crews-Dezurn returned in December 2023, regaining the vacant WBC belt with a unanimous decision over Shadasia Green. She also won the interim WBA belt in that bout and has since been upgraded.
In recent interviews, Crews-Dezurn has spoken of being willing to move up or down in weight to make fights, and also of wanting a rematch with Shields.
“Franchon Crews-Dezurn is one of the best boxers in the world – strong, resilient, hardworking and unapologetic, all while carrying herself with class and finesse,” Salita was quoted as saying in the press release. “I look forward to sensational performances and many world title fights ahead from this great champion.”
