Tim Tszyu and Joey Spencer finally hit a topic on which they could find common ground.

Neither combatant had much to say after making weight Friday for their scheduled 10-round junior middleweight clash. Tszyu weighed in right at the junior middleweight limit of 154lbs.

The visiting Spencer was 153¾lbs ahead of Saturday’s PBC on Prime Video headliner from Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, Australia.

“My country, my town,” Tszyu told Main Event-Australia’s Ben Damon of his first home-soil fight in more than a year. “Let’s defend it. The talking is done. Let’s get it on.”

His forthcoming adversary had a similar take.

“All the need for talk is done,” insisted Spencer. “We’re ready to fight.”

Tszyu, 24-2 (17 KOs), will be returning home after a disastrous 2024 abroad, where he went 0-2 in the US. The second-generation boxer and son of Hall of Fame legend Kostya Tszyu lost his WBO junior middleweight title to Sebastian Fundora via split decision last March 31 in Las Vegas.

An effort to return to the title stage ended in a one-sided, third-round knockout defeat to IBF belt holder Bakhram Murtazaliev, 23-0 (17 KOs).

The rebuilding tour begins in “Tszyucastle,” as dubbed after his big wins over countrymen Dennis Hogan and Steve Spark in previous appearances at this venue. Tszyu last fought in Australia in an October 2023 points win over Brian Mendoza to defend his WBO junior middleweight title, his final act as a titlist and unbeaten fighter.

Spencer will be fighting outside the US for the first time as a pro. The 25-year-old from Linden, Michigan, has won three in a row since a brutally lopsided March 2023 seventh-round knockout defeat to then-unbeaten Jesus Ramos Jr. in Las Vegas.
