It was announced by promotional company World of Boxing, that former IBF and IBO light welterweight champion Eduard Troyanovsky will make his ring return on July 1 in Moscow, Russia, as a part of the card headlined by heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin - who is scheduled for a collision versus Andrey Rudenko of Ukraine.
Troyanovsky is set to face former world title challenger Michele Di Rocco of Italy.
IBF #7 and WBA #8 Troyanovsky (25-1, 22 KOs) just turned 37-years old. He acquired the vacant IBO 140lb title in April 2015 against fellow compatriot Aik Shakhnazaryan, and then added the IBF belt when he stopped 48-0 Argentinean Cesar Rene Cuenca in November 2015.
Troyanovsky defended his title twice, stopping Cuenca in a rematch and then official challenger Keita Obara from Japan, and was riding 15-fight kayo streak, when he ran into undefeated but unheralded Namibian Julius Indongo.
Indongo, a heavy underdog, turned into the sport’s best kept secret, when he blitzed Troyanovsky with a single punch less than a minute into the fight.
35-year old Di Rocco (41-2-1, 18 KOs), nicknamed “The King”, held the European light welterweight title for almost three years, defending it four times against fighters from all over Europe (Ville Piispanen of Finland, Kasper Bruun of Denmark, Ruben Nieto of Spain and France’s Alexander Lepelley) before vacating it in search for international glory.
He failed to get a world title, being stopped in eight by three-division world champion Ricky Burns in May 2016. Di Rocco has fought just once after that, winning over Georgian journeyman Mikheil Avakyan on a DQ in March.
In the main event, troubled Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (31-1, 23 KOs), whose recent run was marred by doping allegations, takes on WBO #9 and IBF/WBC #13 Andriy Rudenko (31-2, 19 KOs) of Ukraine, who is riding a seven-fight winning streak.
Tickets for the show, which will be held in Main Central Concert Hall “Rossiya”, have been recently released for sale.
