WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder wants to silence the critics on Saturday night, when he faces Luis Ortiz in a rematch.

Wilder and Ortiz will headline a Fox Sports Pay-Per-View card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

They first clashed in March of 2018, with Wilder stopping the Cuban boxer in the tenth round of the bout.

Wilder dropped Ortiz three times in the contest, but he was badly hurt in the seventh round of the bout.

The 34-year-old Wilder is already in line for a rematch with Tyson Fury on a date of February 22 in Las Vegas.

“For the removal of all doubt that I am the better man,” Wilder said.

“Some people think I got a lucky escape and I want to prove that wrong. But also because Luis has spent his career being denied opportunities by the other top heavyweights. And still is.So I want to give him, at 40, this present of a last opportunity of a big pay-night.”

Wilder also says that he wanted to give Ortiz another payday, because the Cuban boxer's daughter Lismercedes has a rare skin condition epidermolysis bullosa - while Wilder’s daughter Naieya was born with spina bifida.

“I know personally how hard it is and how much it takes to take care of a child with a disorder,” Wilder said.

“It takes a lot of money, and it takes a lot of care, and I grew a great bond with him. So I have seen him as one of the top guys in the heavyweight division, and I want to bless him.

“You need money to support them, and I wanted to bless him again for not only for him being a great warrior, one of the best in the world but also for his family. I wanted to bless his family and put him on pay-per-view.”
