Marcus Browne will now face Brandon Glanton following the withdrawal of veteran Rocky Fielding from the October 1 cruiserweight clash set for the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Browne, a 34-year-old southpaw, has been inactive since posting a 10-round points victory over Adrian Taylor two years ago though his last taste of any real noteworthy action came in December 2021 when he was knocked out in the ninth round during a bid to unseat light heavyweight king Artur Beterbiev.

Browne, 25-2 (16 KOs), is quoted as saying: “It’s been a long time coming. Glanton just wrote himself a check his ass won’t be able to cash.”

Whether his fists can do any better than his ass remains to be seen. The 20-3 (17 KOs) Glanton is coming off a bad-tempered 12-round points loss to Chris Billam-Smith in April, a fight better remembered for 33-year-old Glanton’s distasteful pre-fight threats.

“You know, this fight has been in the making for a long time now,” Glanton said. “It’s not only a fight that was supposed to happen, but it’s a fight that needs to happen. Not just for boxing but for the two of us to finally settle things. Marcus Browne is legitimately a bad human being.”

Andrew Tabiti, 22-2 (18 KOs), will operate in the role of chief support in Nigeria following the postponement of a bout between Richard Commey and Shiloh Defreitas. Show organisers, Balmoral Group Promotions in partnership with AK Promotions, plan to stage that bout later in the year. They are yet to confirm an opponent for Tabiti.
